Chuandixia ancient village locates in a useful location, with easy transportation to nearby Hebei province and Inner-Mongolia area. Therefore, it was flooded with a stream of horses and carriages throughout the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing dynasties (1644-1911). But unfortunately, part of the village was seriously damaged during the Japanese Occupation (1937-1945) and the 10-year-long Cultural Revolution (1966-1976), leaving parts of the village in ruins till even today. In late 1970s’ when adopt the policy of Reform and Opening and with the development of the railway, expressways and roads through the mountains, the village lost its strategic significance and quickly became deserted. Nowadays, there are only 14 families still living in this village, making the totally population only around 30 people. Because of this, the village is very well maintained and has become frozen in its history making this small town a “living museum” in the Beijing district.
Tour schedule:
Your hotel/apartment pick-up by our well-trained English-speaking tour guide & private car/van at 8:30 in the morning and drive to Chuandixia village (2-3 hours’ driving). Here you will visit the ancient village and trek on the mountains nearby, hear the stories given by elderly and visit a small temple in the village. Lunch will be arranged at about 12:30pm. You will be transferred back to downtown Beijing by 16:30.

At present, there are more than 4 million vehicles in Beijing, and it is said that approximately 30,000 cars are sold every month, so heavy traffic is a constant in the city (Rush Hours from 7:30-9:30 in the morning, 16:30-18:30 in the afternoon). We will try our best to tour according to the timetable, but we cannot guarantee that traffic will not delay our schedule. Our tour guide will notify you if a delay occurs.
B. There will be an extended amount of walking during this tour, therefore, you are recommended to wear sport shoes and clothes that are suitable for outdoor activities.
